The inspiration for the layout came from the many small agricultural narrow gauge lines that were used in the east of England, to help with the transport of the main crop, which was potatos at the turn of the 20th century. These flourished after the first world war when large quantities of rail and stock were sold off from the War Depatment after its use in the trenches was over. I imagine that one of these lines has lasted longer than most (they were virtually gone by the end of the 40's in reality) and the time scale is closer to the present day, but kept vague so I can use a variety of stock.

The railway is set at the start of spring hence the bare trees and the flowering daffodils that can be seen around the model.
